Specific Event Jobs

The jobs below are targeted for a specific event, which means that you’ll only have to give your time and energy for a short period of time (1 day to 1 month) – then you’re done!

Fall Events/Fundraisers
 
Volunteer Sign Up and Welcome Back Parent Coffee  (approximate 15 volunteers needed) EASY! - PTA and classroom level booths are set up to answer questions.  Parents have an opportunity to reconnect while scheduling their volunteer commitments at the school and for the classroom.

Volunteers tasks:
  • Table/sign up sheet setup
  • Monitor grade level tables
  • Event clean up

** Volunteers working this event receive first sign up privileges


Wrapping Paper Fundraiser (6 - 8 volunteers required) EASY!  - The Wrapping Paper fundraiser is the PTA’s largest net revenue event.  The PTA receives 53% of all wrapping paper, gifts, and holiday candy sales.  Merchandise is of excellent quality and is comparably priced with retail stores. 

Volunteers tasks:
  • Distribute forms to classrooms
  • Verify order sheets match funds
  • Sort and distribute orders to classrooms
                             
 
Red Ribbon Week (4 – 6 volunteers required) EASY! - In 1985, Drug Enforcement Agent Kiki Camarena was murdered by the drug cartel in Mexico.  To honor his memory and to show that they would continue his fight against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors wore red.  Held the third week of October, Red Ribbon Week evolved to promote healthy, hopeful and drug-free youth in a safe, caring and drug-free community.  All DMUSD schools participate in this district-driven program and Ashley Falls focuses on making healthy living choices.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Decorate the campus
  • Distribute student pledges and red wristbands                        


International Walk/Bike to School Day (20+ volunteers needed) EASY! - Families around the world join together in support of healthy transportation choices.  Held in October, community leaders walk with the students and a snack table is ready for all hungry walkers.  You can also visit the California Walk to School website at CAWalkToSchool.com.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Area group leaders to walk to school
  • On campus greeters
  • Hand out waters, juice, fruit to walkers                    

 
Reflections (4 – 6 Volunteers required) -Students are encouraged to pursue artistic expression through participation in the National PTA’s annual Reflections program. Artwork is themed and can be submitted in one of six mediums: literature, musical composition, photography and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, print making and collage), dance choreography and film/video productions.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Event set up – displaying visual arts, setting up areas/equipment for live productions.
  • Judge photography, literature, visual art, musical composition, dance choreography and film/video production
  • Event clean up                  


Spring Events
 
Spring Carnival (40+ volunteers needed) - The Fall Carnival is the premier Ashley Falls community event; neighborhood kids eagerly look forward to it each year…and it’s a top fundraiser!  The atmosphere is carnival-like with game booths, a food tent, blow-up slides, and DJ. This event requires a tremendous volunteer base of parents and students – jobs range from huge to small!

Volunteer tasks:
  • Booth sponsorship – Distribute and collect forms for booth sponsorship.  Make booth sponsorship signs.
  • Craft/vendor booths – Distribute and collect forms for vendor booths.  Work with vendors on booth set up, logistics and payment.
  • Food
o    Chairperson(s) coordinate menu with local food/restaurant vendors.
o    Additional volunteers are needed to set up and work booth on Carnival day. One hour shifts are available throughout the day.

  • Silent auction/Gift baskets
o    Volunteers needed to solicit local businesses for auction item donations.
o    Also need help with creating/wrapping gift baskets.

  • Signs – Make carnival booth signs. EASY!
  • Ticket sales – Procure and bundle tickets for pre-event sales.  Manage pre-event sales ticket orders.  Coordinate/work ticket booth at event.
  • Underwriting and donations – Solicit donations from local businesses.
                 

Jog-A-Thon (30+ volunteers required) EASY! -Our primary source of funding to support the ESC programs at our school.  This program is now supported by the Healthy Choices Committee as part of a universal effort on the part of Ashley Falls PTA to promote a healthy lifestyle for our children.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Be a tally marker on the day of the event (morning and afternoon times available)
  • Complete sponsor sheets with final lap/donation amounts.        


Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week (10 - 15 volunteers required) - A week of fun to show our teachers and staff that we appreciate the great work they do with our students.  

Volunteer tasks:
  • Plan, set-up, clean up for daily breakfasts, lunches and/or afternoon snacks
  • Solicit donations from local businesses
  • Help coordinate special activities with room parents
  • May assist in school decoration, flower arrangements, luncheon presentation/activity.          



End of Year Events


Goodwill Games  (30+ volunteers required) EASY! - An all-school event that: focuses on the character trait of sportsmanship; promotes intra-grade interaction; and gives students a chance to interact with potential classmates for the coming year.  Held during the last week of the school year, the Games begin with an inspirational opening ceremony; students then participate in non-competitive and cooperative games. 

Volunteer tasks:
  • Set-up, clean-up of games
  • Coordinate various games throughout the day


6th Grade Promotion Reception (8 volunteers required) - The PTA works with teachers and staff to provide a memorable send-off for our 6th grade students.  Held the last day of school, families watch as students participate in a formal school ceremony which is followed by the PTA sponsored reception.

Volunteer tasks:
  • 5th grade parents to host during event itself                



Jobs that last throughout the year

The jobs below can be done throughout the year.  This doesn’t mean that you’ll be busy every day or every week,

Kid Power-Kids in Community Service  (3 - 5 volunteers) - Kid Power encourages students to reach out and help others in need.   Kid Power events in the past have been the Used Sports Equipment Drive, Halloween Candy Collection, Veteran’s Day Cards and a Book Drive.  Ashley Falls PTA also supports teacher initiatives in community service such as Roots and Shoots, a global peace and environmental awareness club run by our Science teacher, Mrs. Zebold.  Events may be run independent of each other.

  • May seek out community service opportunities
  • Coordinate and “advertise” events
  • Volunteer at specific events


Spirit Wear (3 - 4 volunteers) EASY! - Spirit Wear promotes school spirit and builds community among ‘Ashley Falls Eagles’ families.  Bulk orders are processed by the Chairs.  Assistance is required 3 - 5 times per year for on-site spirit wear sales.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Sell spirit wear on campus during drop-off and/or pick up times


Spirit Spotting (3 - 4 volunteers) EASY! - Designed to promote school spirit, on random ‘Friday Spirit Days’  PTA volunteers spot students wearing spirit wear or school colors and award them with a small prize.

Volunteer tasks:
  • During lunchtime recess spot students wearing spirit wear and award them with a small prize



Lunch Clubs (Unlimited volunteers!!  We can have as many clubs as we have parents willing to lend their expertise.) - Lunch Clubs provide an alternative for playground activities to students.  Parents and teachers who have interests or skills that they are willing to share with our students volunteer to lead the clubs.  Examples of Lunch Clubs are Board Games, Book Club, Garden, Chess, and Open Mike.  Clubs meet after lunch one day per week in either the fall or spring session.

  • Establish club activity
  • Coordinate club activities



Walk-to-School Wednesdays (2 – 4 volunteers needed) - An offshoot of International Walk To School Day, students are encouraged to walk, scooter, or bike to school on a regular basis by getting their Walking Card punched.  Cards can be obtained and punched Wednesday mornings in front of Child Care tables or in front of park restrooms.

Volunteer tasks:
  • Card punchers for 15 minutes each Wednesday morning a month



Assisted Drop-off (2 – 3 volunteers needed during parent/teacher conference weeks only) EASY! - Volunteers work with site staff to directing morning traffic, open car doors and assist children with getting out of cars in order to make school drop-off a safe, quick and pleasant start to the school morning.  The PTA funds safety vests and traffic cones. 


Volunteer tasks:
  • At upper drop off/pick up, direct traffic, open car doors and assist children with getting in/out of cars

PTA Volunteer Opportunities
